He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Gertrude (née Perdue), father Eugene, sister Helen Kokko (Vilho), and brothers Paul, John (Gertrude), Victor, and Frank.
Jim will be fondly remembered for his kindness, patience, gentle nature, keen intellect, and for his loyalty and dedication to family, friends, community and church.
From his late teens, Jim taught at the Ennismore Continuation School for six years while completing his B.A. from the University of Western Ontario. Upon graduating, Jim embarked on a 34-year career with Canadian General Electric Co. Ltd, where he rose through a progression of Cost Accounting and Financial Management positions. From a young age, Jim was also an active volunteer in his community, ranging from serving as Secretary to the Arbordale Liftlock Cooperative, which built the Greenhill, Valleyview and Pinehill subdivisions in the 1950s, to serving as an elected trustee to Separate School Boards and a member of the boards of directors of MaryCrest, Inglewood Seniors’ Residence and St. Joseph’s At Fleming. In addition to years of parent involvement in minor sports, Jim also gave decades of service to St. Alphonsus Parish and was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus.
The family wishes to pay special tribute and thanks to Dr. Loucks, Dr. Bishop and the nursing staff of the ER and the ICU at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Their remarkable compassion, sensitivity, and professionalism were tremendously comforting in our time of need.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Monday, September 27 at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME, 356 Rubidge St. Prayers will be led by the Knights of Columbus at 8 pm.
