Mr. Madill taught me at R.F Downey [one  of my favorite teachers]  Mr. Madill stood by me and encouraged me when times were tough.  He taught me chess and how to do research in the Library a skill I use to this day. I've never have forgotten him.

Our sincere condolences....We are thinking of you all

I was so fortunate to have Mr Madill as my gr 5 teacher at Chemong. He was a talented educator and cared about the students deeply. I remember he attended my gr 8 grad at my request even though he had moved onto another school. When I started teaching myself, he sent me a note of congratulations. I will never forget him and his generosity. 

John was one of the most respected gentleman I ever met.  It  was an honour to work with him.  He was not only a very talented teacher but an amazing woodworker as well. I use to enjoy talking to him about his new ideas for his lathe work and was so excited for him when his invention for steadying a lathe appeared in the Lee Valley catalogue.
John will be deeply missed.

To Hazel and family, we send our sincerest condolences for your loss of John.  It is with fond memories of John as a most professional classroom teacher at R.F. Downey School that I most appreciated knowing John which was only matched by his soon to be equally professional wife.   You both made being a school administrator so pleasurable in those days.  
May you find strength and peace in the days and weeks to come and  you are able to dwell on all the best of days with John.

Hazel and boys I was very sad to read of John’s passing.   I had the pleasure  of working with John, or JL, as he was affectionately known at Chemong P.S.
John was a very good friend to me in my time of need and I cherish the memories.
JL…..gone but not forgotten.

It seems a lifetime away, but back in the early 1970's Mr. Madill taught at Kawartha Heights Public School, when it only went up to Grade 6. I was a student there, and remember Madill as an engaging and friendly teacher. I was new to the school and he was welcoming. Also a good sense of humour. RIP Mr. Madill.

I taught for many years with JL and enjoyed his company immensely. He was so interesting to be around when he shared news of the various projects that he had going on. That intense focus was a strength that he conveyed to his students. All of them knew that they were in the presence of a man that had a plethora entertaining and educational cards up his sleeve and that each and every day held the potential for the unveiling of a new and enticing idea. That was John; a man with an ever enquiring mind and an ability to sweep his pupils along as they witnessed and shared his enthusiasm. I valued our friendship and will miss him dearly. Good by my friend.
