July 8, 1939 – September 30, 2021
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of John, a long-time resident of Lang Ontario, at PRHC with his loving family by his side.
Born in Peterborough, John is the eldest son of William and Dorothy McIntyre. John was the beloved husband of Gail (Edwards), a treasured father to Steve (Patty) and Darren (Claire) and a deeply caring grandfather to Meghan, Nigel, Ewan, and Sarah. His sisters Carol Thompson (Ed), Heather Shay (Ralph) and brother Bill (Linda) will sorely miss their dear brother. John was a much-loved uncle, brother-in-law, and nephew.
John lived his life in Otonabee township at the farm on Rice Lake for twelve years, and then in Mathers Corners until he married Gail. They bought a home in Lang and have lived there for 59 years, raising their two sons, and sharing good times with family, friends, and neighbours. John and Gail created many wonderful memories while on adventurous vacations and camping trips with their children and on their own. They celebrated their 60th anniversary on September 1st.
As a devoted father and grandfather, John generously shared his time, imparting invaluable knowledge and wisdom along the way. His quiet, gentle presence calmed many a fussy baby. John enjoyed being outside at the farm, the hunting camp, and on Lang Hill. Days at the farm were spent cutting and piling wood with his father and brother, as well as gardening and picking berries with family. Days at the hunting camp were filled with fishing and walking in the forest, followed by games of cribbage, story-telling, and quite possibly a rum and Pepsi.
John retired from CGE after 38 years and was known for being a hard working, conscientious employee, and friend to many there. As a dedicated community member, John was always ready to lend a hand. He was a long-time volunteer at Lang Pioneer Village working in the shingle mill and cutting wood for the stoves. John will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
John chose to leave this earth as he lived his life – no fuss, no fanfare, in quiet humility. According to John’s wishes, a private family ceremony will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made on John’s behalf to Keene United Church or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be left at www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca
