Jack passed away suddenly at home, in the presence of the love of his life, Isabell, during a simple and joyful moment that perfectly captured the essence of his kind and gentle spirit.
Jack was the beloved husband of Isabell, devoted son of Hans Christian (d. 2013) and Gertrud Petersen (d. 2022), and a cherished brother to Frank Petersen and sister-in-law Silvanna. He was a proud and loving uncle to Stephen and Christopher, and a devoted companion to his beloved dog, Astra.
A gentle giant at 6’6”, Jack was known for his warm heart, quiet wisdom, and quirky charm. He had a natural way of making those around him feel at ease, always eager to share his knowledge or lend a helping hand. A true people pleaser, Jack’s thoughtful nature and unique sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Jack dedicated his career to public service, spending many years with the Ministry of Natural Resources in Ontario before taking on the role of Building and Properties Manager for the City of Kawartha Lakes. His passion for process design, government operations, and his constant curiosity for new technologies and innovations defined his professional life.
Outside of work, Jack found peace and joy in the great outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman, with a deep love for angling, hunting, and long walks with Astra. His talents extended to craftsmanship – he took great pride in designing and building many of the homes he shared with Isabell, as well as engaging in smaller, crafty projects that showcased his creativity and skill.
The family will be holding a small, private celebration of life to honor Jack’s memory.
Special thanks go to the paramedics and the staff at Peterborough Regional Hospital for their care and support.
Jack’s life was marked by kindness, dedication, and love – a legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
