HOBBINS, Joseph Eric ‘Joe’ – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe on November 2, 2020 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. He was surrounded by his beloved family; his wife of 42 years, Barbara (nee Orr), and daughters Denise Munro (Jamie), Joanna Willoughby (John) and Diana Murphy (Brendan). He was the cherished grandpa of Olivia, Michael and Mitchell and dear brother of Robert (Cindy) and John (Carole). Predeceased by his parents Dennis and Mary Hobbins. He will be sadly missed by his granddogs Princess and Lilly. Joe was a fitter-welder in Large Motors at General Electric for 42 years. He was committed to workplace safety and for 25 years he served on the GE Health and Safety Committee. For many years he was also a member of the GE S & A Club. Joe loved sports of all kinds including golf, hockey, baseball and football. Most of all, he loved his family – he adored his wife and daughters and was so thrilled about his young grandkids. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2020 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. To protect the public during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are limiting the number of guests per half hour for this visitation. I was very saddened to hear about Joe’s passing. I knew him briefly during our high school years and would run into him and Barb from time to time around Peterborough. He was someone I really enjoyed knowing. My condolences to Barb and the entire family.

John and Carole,

Adam let me know about Joe passing away. I have so many fond memories of the Hobbins boys and sports of course. Joe was usually the one to keep things on the rails. A good big brother. I wish I could be there to personally offer my condolences. Hopefully things in the world will settle down and I can come down for a visit. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Sincerely, Johnny Papp

Dear John and Carole, together with the entire Hobbins family,
During this time of bereavement, I wish to extend my condolences to the family in respect of the passing of Joe Hobbins. A dear husband, father, brother and brother-in-law. Sorry to learn Joe's journey on earth has come to such a premature end.
A quote from the late Senator Edward Kennedy, " Never say in grief you are sorry he's gone. Rather, say in thankfulness you are grateful he was here "

I remember Joe from Adam Scott and always remember him as a great football player but very gentlemanly. Since I stayed in Peterborough and he did as well we used to run into each other here and there over the years. He always had the time to stop and chat. A great guy! He will be missed. Gone too young.
My condolences to his family.

My condolences to the Hobbins family from Joe's old football coach at Adam Scott. It grieves me to hear of Joe's passing at such a young age. I have many fond memories of Joe as a young man. He was a great offensive tackle and enjoyed playing the game. Tim Barrie kindly notified me of Joe's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, his daughters, grandchildren and his brothers especially John who played for me as well.
With fond memories, Bill Bourne
