April 28, 1926 -- May 17, 2025
Josephine passed away peacefully in her sleep, a few weeks after celebrating her 99th birthday and is lovingly remembered by her children Peter (Sue), Vera (David), Ella (Tristan), Melinda (Steve – predeceased); grandchildren Julie, Cheryl, Natalie, Robert, William, Brianna, Jacqueline, Mark, and her great-grandchildren Graham, Grace, Victoria, Avin, Talulah, Darwin, Ronan, Theodore, Abraham, and Sorin.
Josephine’s Teacher’s Training in Education was disrupted by W. W. II, forcing her to flee her homeland of Slovenia, to be corralled into a Displacement Camp where she waited for two years before hearing the gratifying news that she was welcomed by and sailed to Canada, arriving to Peterborough, Ontario, in January of 1948.
Upon arrival to this new land, she was provided with housing and her first job at the Nicholls Hospital where she worked in the Housekeeping Department and was commended for her fastidious work. Soon after, to improve speaking English, she attended Night School where she met and later married her protector and the love of her life, Milan. Together they raised a family and prospered to become well-respected business owners in the downtown core of Peterborough.
Josephine will be remembered for her selfless and unconditional love, her unwavering moral backbone, and her tireless work ethic matched by few. Rest in peace, Mom, for we will always love and cherish the memory of you.
Visitation will be held at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge St., Peterborough on Saturday, May 24th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel the next day at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment at Rosemount Memorial Gardens, Peterborough.
In Josephine’s memory, a donation to the PRHC Foundation would be appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be made at ComstockKaye.com
