   As an other seasons ends,a new one begins.Autumn is upon us,as birds take flight and the vivid colors slowly display themselves.The leaves will fall and the cold north winds will send the fresh fallen snow.Shorter days will give way to the long awaited light,life will be renewed.Fresh fragrance of spring flowers will fill the air,once again to bask in the warmth of the summer sun.
   With the changing of each new season,the memories of you only strengthens me as your daughter, to know how much I was loved by you.As in my own life, the seasons will approach and pass, knowingly through your love and guidance that I am a much better person for receiving them, that I greatly thank you for.The sadness and loneliness of your passing will always remain with me,out of those special moments shared between us, laughter and smiles will always have a place within my heart.
   With the beginning of each new season it is time to appreciate life and to understand how fragile and complex,yet how beautiful it really is,to hold it one moment than to have it gone the next.As I go through the seasons of my life,I am assured within my heart that I was truly blessed to be loved by you.

Memories of Marelene

I've probably known Marelene longer than any person in my life up to now. (over 67 years).  I believe 1943 was the year "the Shannons" would become our next door neighbors; I would be six Marelene would be five.  I vaguely remember looking out our north living room window to our new neighbors house.  We played together; I can remember calling on Marelene to come out to play, standing near her window saying "Hi Marelene" until someone came out with an answer.  She would do the same when calling for me at my house.  The McCauleys, neighbors beside us on the south side once took a picture of the two of us out on the sidewalk; I wished later I could have had a copy of that picture.  Then there was the exciting day I accompanied the Shannons to the Peterborough Exhibition; I was about 13 at the time, Gordon was only about 5.  We boarded the ride called "the Rocket"; Gordon held on for dear life.

The only time Marelene and I would go any place together was one night we would walk into Peterborough down the railway tracks to see the detective movie "the Fat Man" Mrs. Shannon seemed happy to see us heading off together.

During these last few years I would phone, send a card, or write a letter on her birthday.  In my last letter for her 72nd birthday I said Mareley and Carley are no longer little kids; when we were young we thought we had forever and a day, now its more like we have a day.  Also I would describe in detail how God has provided a new life for us: quote -it was not passed on to you from your parents, for the life they gave you will fade away.  This new life will last forever, for it comes from Christ, God's ever-living message to Men.

Dear Marelene, 

Here we are at another birthday, this time 72; I will be 73 on my next birthday in about 6 weeks.  Mareley and Carley are no longer little kids.  When we were young we thought we had forever ad a day, now its more like we have a day.  

I'm sending you 2 pictures, 1 of Diane, and one of the glory days of swimming at the canal bridge on Maria Street.  I had forgotten I had this picture of Diane.

Life goes by quickly doesn't it!  Is this all there is?  I don't believe this is all we have to look forward to; God came to earth and was born a little baby (the Christmas Story).  At 33 they took him and crucified him on a cross but as the story goes (The Easter Story) after three days he arose from the grave.

Why did he come in the first place?  It says he died for our sins.  My description of SIN is like the song "My Way", I did it my way!  Let me answer the question, "Why did god come?"  Quoting the Bible.  "For god sent Christ Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to end all God's anger against us.  He used Christ's blood and our faith as the means of saving us from his wrath.  Then what can we boast about doing, to earn our salvation?  Nothing at all.  Why?  Because our acquittal is not based on our good deeds; it is based on what Christ has done and our faith in him.  So it is that we are saved by faith in Christ and not by the good things we do.  But he paid for you with precious life blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.  God chose him for this purpose long before the world began, ... because of this, your trust can be in God who raised Christ from the dead... Now your faith and hope can rest in him alone.  Now you can have real love for everyone because your souls have been cleansed from selfishness and hatred when you trusted Christ to save you;... For you have a newlife.  it was not passed on to you from your parents, for the life they gave you will fade away.  This new one will last forever, for it comes from Christ.  God's ever living message to men.  Yes, our natural life will fade as grass does when it becomes all brown and dry.  All our greatness is like a flower that droops and falls, but the word of the Lord will last forever.  And his message is the Good news that was preached to you.  God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  For the scriptures tell us that no one who believes in Christ will ever be disappointed.  Anyone who calls upon the name of the lord will be saved.

How can i express my emotions on paper,it is not enough to describe my true feeling towards you.The loving memories of you are overwhelming,remembering the sounds of your laughter that embrassed me with such joy.The sadness I would feel when you would shed a tear.

Words can't deliver the message we would like to express.  We miss you and will always be thinking of you.

Dear Mom, 
I am having a hard time trying to write the words that have the most meaning to describe you.  I think I found some.  There are probably more but here are some that I remember.  I remember on Bolivar St. the cake fight.  It was mine and Linda's Birthday which we celebrated together.  We had a cake fight and it went right up Bolivar St.  Cake was up our noses in our eyes, it was great.  Also the marker fight in Windsor and the water fight in Windsor.  You and Shawn stalked me.  One was at the bathroom door while the other was at the other door.  Talk about ganging up.  Remember One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, you laughed so hard, we made you leave the room.  

I remember as kids, toots and poops were your fav's.  Playing cards, you took so long to discard and I think you savored the flavor of beating us.  Then you just laughed when you won.  As always then you asked if we wanted to play again.  Some said no but some had to kick your butt (Linda).  You would peeve a lot of people off but you were great at that.  We basically loved you for that and expected that from  you.

The hardest part of you being gone is I can't phone you anymore.  I phoned you everyday.  Linda even said I would bring you flowers and I always phoned you.  I remember you told me to let the phone ring until you answered it and a couple of times I hung up after 10 rings.  A few minutes later you would phone me and give me a piece of your mind.  You would say to me "Did you phone?" and I would say yes and you would give me your 2 cents. I remember going over to your house to do the dishes and you scolded me for doing the dishes from right to the left.  I came again and I said I was going to do the dishes and you said not if you are going to do them from the right to the left because I had no where to put the dishes.  I told you to put them away.

You are the best person-mom I have ever known.  I can say a lot of things that came out of your mouth that made a lot of people laugh.  You were so comical in your own loving way.  I will be truthful that you made me mad but you made me laugh more.  You are the best Mom.  You always did what was needed to be done.  You took care of all of us and I mean all of us.  You only asked for our respect in return.  I love you and miss you so much.  I always want to pick up the phone and call you.  It's so hard not to.  I know that the phone is going ring, but I will not hear your voice say hello. 

Mom, Shawn loved you so much.  I am trying to help him through this as much as he helps me.  You know I always work Sundays so I phone and ask him if he would like to go for breakfast.  He can drive and I will pay as I asked him and whoever asks pays.  He deserves this as he was there for you.  You guys had your disagreements and I think that even though you had them, you two had enough love to make it work.  

I hope you have been reunited with everyone you love in Heaven.

A great grandmother that will be deeply missed everyday.

  I had the privilege of meeting Marelene(affectionately known as Marnie) some eighteen years ago.
  As the seasons fell away to another year,so to did the titles of mother in-law/son in-law.A new relationship of mutual respect for each other developed.From that develpment of respect,a friendship evolved.At times there was no need for expression of words,lending a ear and a gentle hug was enough comfort to say"I am here for you my friend"
  As the years gave way and the friendship grew even stronger,I would draw from the compassion and kindness,that Marnie would extend to someone in need.It was not limited, animals as well,some days more  so.There was no lack of these acts, in which to reflect on and learn from to strengthen our own lives.
  If there was a urgency that needed her attention with family members,freinds and pets,Marnie would set aside her own needs and desires to attend to these concerns.She was a special person.
  There are people who enter into our lives,that touch are hearts in such a way;but unknowingly,never know the profound lasting effects of two people merging into a friendship.
  With no judgments placed and not a utterance of a harsh word between us in all those years,truly warrants the respect a person and a special friend so rightfully deserves.
  At times like these I like to refer to a Sanakrit(ancient langauge from India-Nepal)poem.

  I was blessed to have two mothers,yet brief.I still have my mother with us.With all of lifes struggles I can still consult her with these matters,and now I have another mother to guide me spiritually through thses times.
  You will be truly missed,my dear friend.
If you want a friend,you have to be one;and that is what Marnie was to me.I was proud to have such a good friend.

Marlene, Gordon and I went tobogganing on Robert's Hill in the winter.  We always stayed til we where too cold.  Went home and Mom had to warm our feet with warm water.  We would go skating at Riverside Park.  On the weekend, Dad would skate with us.  He would play crack the whip with all the kids.

Dear Shawn and all of your family,

Over the years I have gotten to know Marlene, and her never ending love for her cats, so well. She was always so kindhearted. I will never forget her, I shall really miss her. it is all so sudden!!
My heart goes out to all of you....
