November 27, 1930 - May 28, 2025
It is with profound sorrow but immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived, that we announce our beloved mom, Margaret Elga Finn (nee Molnar) has passed away peacefully at home in Peterborough, Ontario, on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025 in her 95th year.
Marg is survived by her devoted five children: James of Vancouver, B.C., Paul of Peterborough, Ontario, Mary Beth (Rob), of Calgary, Alberta, Elaine (Gary), of Omemee, Ontario and John, of Peterborough, Ontario. Marg will also be forever missed by her seven cherished grandchildren: Aron, Shaun, Devon, Dylan, Sarah, Michelle and Allison as well as her six great-grandchildren. Marg is also survived by her two sisters, Shirley Lawlor of St. Catharines and Josie Braden of Ottawa along with her many nieces and nephews. Marg was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Peter, her parents Joseph and Margaret Molnar, brother Bill Molnar, sister Ann Burghall and sweet baby son Peter.
Marg was born on November 27th, 1930, in Niagara Falls Ontario to her Hungarian father and mother, Joseph and Margaret Molnar. After graduating high school and briefly pursuing a career in modelling in New York, Marg married the love of her life, the dashing Peter, in 1950. Together they raised their children in a home filled with music, sports and adventure. Marg was very involved in the community, the church and was an avid entertainer. In 1969, Marg and Peter bought a fishing lodge in the “wilds of Kawartha Lakes” and moved their brood to Omemee, Ontario where they lived for many years. Marg loved to fish, waterski, snowmobile and would strip boats, clean cottages, run the snack bar and cook for her lodge guests all while keeping track of five energetic children without batting an eye.
When Marg’s children were grown and out of the nest, she and Peter began to seek out new adventures by heading off to Barry’s Bay to live in a “cabin in the woods”. She spent many happy years fishing, working on hobbies and crafts, selling her art at local markets and chasing bears off of her porch. After Peter passed, Marg decided to move to Peterborough to be closer to family and friends where she remained until her passing.
Marg was a very strong and independent woman and inspired her children to be the same. She was artistic, loved all animals, including the many dogs she had over the years and the hummingbirds in her garden. She enjoyed the outdoors, and had an infectious sense of humour. Marg was famous for her pecan pie, peanut butter balls and sewing Barbie clothes for all her granddaughters. She even helped them put on an epic Barbie wedding that made the local newspaper. Marg loved to travel and loved visiting her children out west and was always game for taking road trips especially to Hawkesbury. Marg enjoyed her trips to anywhere there was a beach, Cuba included and was adventurous enough to spend a month with her sister Shirley in South Africa. Mom will be well remembered as an avid reader and in her later years was a keen watcher of tennis, golf and hockey. Mom was obsessed with the shows Bluebloods, Heartland and the Good Wife and anyone visiting her had no choice but to watch her shows and critique all of the characters. A highlight for Marg was visiting location spots in High River, Alberta, where they film the tv show Heartland. She smiled for days!
As a mother, nothing was more important to Marg than raising her children and she often said it was her greatest achievement. She was always the happiest when in the company of family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marg’s warmth, kindness and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Mom, we will forever hold your many acts of love in our hearts.
There will be a family Celebration of Life in memory of Marg at a later date.
Condolence messages and photos for the family may be left at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, Peterborough, Ontario.
