It is with great sadness we announce the death of Betty McMillan. She passed away peacefully on Thursday May 26, 2022 at Fairhaven Long Term Care (Peterborough, ON) in her 93rd year. Loving Mother to Margaret Gemakas (nee Hobbs), David (Karen) Hobbs and the late Catherine (Frank) Biro-Hobbs. Proud Grandmother of 12 and Great-Grandmother of many. Cherished daughter of the late Talmadge and Matilda “Tilly” Graham, Betty was born June 13, 1929 at their home in East York Toronto, ON. Predeceased by her beloved 10 brothers (all of whom served in WWII) and 2 sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Sadly missed by niece and dear friend Marilyn (the late Darryl) Patterson, and by niece Carol (Roger) Boutin. Betty was proud of, and appreciated for, her many (15+) years of faithful service to the Department of National Revenue, Customs and Excise and to the Public Service of Canada, until her retirement in 1987. Dearly missed by many family and friends, Betty will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her fierce love of animals (especially her companions, the late Kooky and Kitty), her quick wit, fun nature, and her ‘pink' kisses. Her appreciation of culture, fashion, and the many Arts, and her giving nature, are shown throughout her years, through her volunteer-work and many travels. Betty will always be admired for her strong spiritual commitment, independence, her love of children and reading, sparked at a very young age, by her Father whom was a Pastor and Teacher, and by her Mother’s unwavering love and dedication to her family and the Family's Church (Graham Church West Ops near Oakwood, ON).
A Celebration of Life is scheduled at a later date.
The family is very grateful to the nurses, PSWs and staff at Fairhaven for the loving care provided to Mom/Grandma. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, or the Sick Kid’s Children’s Hospital in Betty’s name is appreciated.
