
ROGERS, MARIE CATHERINE (NEE HIGGINS) – After a courageous battle with cancer on May 3, 2011 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Beloved wife of C. Neil Rogers for 37 years. Loving ‘Marie’ to Brent Rogers and Hanna Sandler and Glenn and Marilyn Rogers. Grandma Marie to Cameron and Veronica. Cherished sister and best friend to Margaret Higgins. Will be sadly missed by her family in London, Ontario; sister-in-law Donna Higgins, niece Kathleen Higgins and her husband Fernando Rascao, nephew Matthew Higgins and his wife Lisa, and nephew Jonathan Higgins, great nephew Andrew Higgins, great niece Madelyn Higgins and great nephew Xavier Rascao. Pre-deceased by her parents Wilfred and Marie Higgins and her brother Patrick Higgins. Never one to seek the spotlight, Marie was happiest when surrounded by her family and wide circle of friends. Marie enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a teacher in Toronto, Montreal and Apsley. Hundreds of children benefitted greatly from her love, dedication, fun-loving spirit and common sense in classrooms and in homes and hospitals. After retiring, Marie turned her attentions to community and social activities in the Chandos Lake area and to caring for her two beloved furry friends. Her cherished family and countless friends will always treasure Marie’s many kindnesses, her never ending support and loyalty, the warm welcomes to her home, her love of laughter and most of all, her gentle, warm smile. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. at the Comstock Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough. A funeral service will take place in the Comstock chapel on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:00 pm, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment to take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 12 Mile Lake Cemetery, Carnarvon, Ontario.
