Passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023 at Springdale Country Manor at the age of 100. Wife of the late Michael (2009) for 60 years. Mother of Chris, Maureen, David, and the late Mary Anne Veronica (1990). Also survived by 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and grands. Daughter of the late Fred Overend, Madeline Rutherford and step-daughter of Marion Smith. Predeceased by sister Anne (2022).
Mary was a graduate of UofT and taught for many years at PCVS, North Toronto Collegiate and finished up at St. Peter’s Secondary School.
Mary was a very religious person, spending hours praying. She was very generous in many ways, gave to many charities, volunteered for many venues, and participated in multiple groups, religious and otherwise.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough, from 4:00 to 7:00 with Parish Prayers at 4:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains, 411 Reid Street on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow directly after in the cafeteria at St. Peter’s Secondary School, 730 Medical Drive, Peterborough.
Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Sisters of St. Joseph Peterborough who support many causes including St. Vincent de-Paul or charity of your choice.
The Mass will be livestreamed and may be accessed through the obituary listed on the Comstock-Kaye website. This will remain available for viewing for up to 3 months after the day of the Mass.
