Norm died peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, surrounded by his close family and his dear wife and loving companion of almost 62 years, Eleanor. He was 85 years old and had enjoyed excellent health and physical fitness his whole life.
Norm attended McGill University where he studied electrical engineering and was on the McGill swim team. After graduating he went on to work for many years at Canadian General Electric in Peterborough as a sales executive. After retiring from the private sector, Norm worked in Ottawa at Natural Resources Canada with NRCan’s program promoting energy efficiency for industry.
Norm was truly a very special man and has left us with the gift of so many great memories. A loving and devoted husband, wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his kindness, compassion and generosity — as well as his quick wit and terrific sense of humour — will always keep him alive in our hearts.
Predeceased by his father, Joseph Oliva “Bill,” and mother, Eileen (nee McCaskill), Norm is survived by his wife, Eleanor (nee Jewell); his daughter, Karen (Lori, deceased); son, Greg (Janice); granddaughters, Katie (Steve) and Lauren (Alex); and his beautiful great-grandchildren, Logan and Maddie. He is also survived by his cousin, Joyce; brother-in-law, Don (Linda); nephew, Chad (Jaime); and nieces, Jennifer (Mike) and Sarah.
In memory of Norm, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. The family will plan a celebration to remember Norm in the near future.
