Passed away peacefully at Hospice Peterborough on March 2, 2026, at the age of 81, following a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer.
For over 47 years, Paul was the devoted husband and partner of Lynn (née Whiteside). Together, they built a life centered on family and enduring friendship. He was a proud and loving father to Paul Courneya and Brittney Courneya (Matt).
His greatest joy in recent years was his role as Grampa to Lincoln and Presley. He will also be missed by faithful Izzy the kitty, who never missed an evening sitting by Paul’s side.
Paul is survived by his brother Joseph Donald Courneya, and his sisters-in-law Carol Whiteside and Sharon Lang. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and a wide circle of friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dorina and Dorian Courneya; his sister Catherine McNulty; his parents-in-law, Marie and Robert Whiteside; and his siblings-in-law, Mary, Bobby, and Brian.
He will be deeply missed by Jim Barnes, his best friend of over 50 years who was truly considered family.
Paul was a man of quiet strength and reliability. A longtime employee and respected manager at General Electric, he brought a sense of leadership and commitment to everything he did. An avid boater and a lifelong enthusiast of classic cars, Paul didn't just admire beautiful machines—he spent countless hours working on them. A true highlight of his life was his original 1969 Mustang, which he bought brand new in 1969 and cherished for over five decades.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to those who provided such exceptional care and comfort during Paul's final journey: Dr. Matheson in Palliative Care, the team at Hospice Peterborough and Nurse Christina from SE Health.
A gathering to honour Paul’s life will be held at a later date.
In memory of Paul, a donation to Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.ComstockKaye.com
