Paul Robert Read quietly passed away on April 15, 2025, from a broken heart.
Paul was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Read, who immigrated to Toronto, Canada,
from Germany in 1966.
Paul was born on February 12, 1950. He was raised in Scarborough, Ontario, and attended
the University of Toronto, where he met Ruth in a laboratory, working as a technical
assistant. They were married on September 1, 1979.
Paul graduated from the University of Toronto in 1974 and became a licensed pharmacist in
1977. He went on to build a legacy of excellent patient care in Havelock and Campbellford
before settling in Peterborough. Paul served as a community pharmacist for nearly 50
years, becoming one of the longest-serving pharmacists in the area.
He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, caring attitude, strong work ethic,
and loyalty. Paul loved to engage in conversation and share his wisdom. He was a respected
mentor to fellow pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and was always ready to lend a
hand to a friend in need. Paul was a very selfless man, and he never asked for anything for
himself.
Paul will be deeply missed by his family in Germany, as well as by his many friends, co
workers, and patients.
For those who had the privilege of knowing “Simply Paul,” “Rexall Read,” or “Pharma Paul,”
their memories of him will be cherished forever.
A Memorial Reception celebrating Paul’s life will be held at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough, on Monday, June 9th between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Funeral Prayers and Words of Remembrance at 8 p.m. If desired, donations to St. Anne’s Parish would be appreciated.
"Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died
that distinguish one man from another."
— Ernest Hemingway
