I needed to tell this story so that everyone will know what kind of person Penny was and what she meant to me.
It was the first Christmas that Dave and I were together. She invited us to stay at the house to wake with the family on Christmas morning. After the coffee was poured we gathered in front of the tree. When we first sat down I noticed all of the stockings under the tree. It was a little awkward for me at first. Stockings were handed to Ray, Jen and Dave made by Penny. One for Auntie Joan, Uncle Bud and Grandma Rita. I had a sad moment remembering all the stockings that my Mom had made for me as a child and the excitement of opening it to find tiny treasures. Then looking up Penny had extended a hand containing an old gray work sock, stating that next year I would have a real one with my name on it. It was at that moment that I realized what a truly wonderful person she really was. As I had not had a Christmas stocking since the Christmas before my Mom passed and I was about 10 years old. This small gesture that to her was just the right thing to do melted my heart and made my childhood come rushing back. And you need to know that in your stocking Penny would wrap absolutely everything (right down to the chapstick from Rudolph)!!
I am so glad that in the weeks before her death I was able to convey to her what she had done for me and how it made me feel. She was very surprised that it had such an impact on me. 
I will miss my second Mother and I know that my children will remember her with the love and admiration that I do.

To Ray and family, our deepest sympathy in the loss of Penny. We remember fondly the early years (Ray & Paul at Ryerson, our wedding reception), and Ray and Penny expecting David and then Jennifer. It's hard to believe how quickly time flies. Take care.

Penny and Ray have been the best neighbours we could have ever hoped for. We're so sad to lose her so soon. We will miss hearing her laughter next door, answering all of her grand childrens' many questions. Her love of nature and our little piece of paradise on Katchewanooka Lake will always be remembered. Penny was an exceptional lady and our sympathy extends to everyone whose lives she touched so lovingly. Rest in Peace Penny. Missed by Pam & Peter, Felix her cat buddy and Floozee the big white dog.

We were so blessed to have had Penny in our family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. We have many wonderful memories of family times we spent together. She was an amazing person who will be greatly missed. Now she is at peace with the Lord but her spirit will be with us forever. Love, Joan and Bud

Gay and I have only known Penny and Ray for about 4 years, since the coming together of Jennifer and our son Jeremy. But in that short time we have grown very fond of them both. Penny loved the outdoors and I recall her once inviting us to join them on one of their hikes that would last about 2-3 hours. I said "Sure" as long as we could bring a golf cart! Penny was a lovely person and her passing is all too soon. I'll miss our lively chats about pensions, Penny! Our deepest sympathy and love to Ray and all of the Family.

It was my privelege to work with Penny on the Lakefield Trail Stewardship Committee. She was a diligent worker and a very stronge supporter of our trail and very good at taking care of business. She had a gift for writing which she did for many media releases and our website that wouldn't have happened it if wasn't for Penny. My sincere sympathy to Penny's family and friends - the world has lost this excellent person much too early.

We have gotten to know both Ray and Penny and their families at our many,many years of our annual "Ball party" gatherings. With Pennys gracious "hosting skills" we have had great times, with great friends,and wonderful food tastings yearly. I have enjoyed listening to Penny talk about her families many adventures and especially looked forward to our heart to heart chats. Pennys presence will be sorely missed, but never forgotten! I was very fortunate to work with Penny for many years and the two of us became friends. During that that time Penny taught me many things. Penny always approached life with passion, honesty, tenacity, kindness and joy. Penny was, and will always be, a person I will cherish and be thankful that I had in my life, if only for a short time. Penny, my dear friend, you will be missed but never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers go out to Ray and the family and I am here if there is anything I can do to help.
