HILAND, Peter Henry – Passed away on August 12, 2018 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit at the age of 59 years. Beloved son of the late Edward and Helen Hiland. Dear brother of Edward Hiland (Antonia), Katherine McKeen (Stuart) and the late John Hiland. Proud uncle of Edward and Elizabeth, Marion, Philip, Sharon and Sandra.
Peter had many interests in his life - rock music, guitar, reading newspapers, golf, biking, nature and fishing.
Peter struggled with mental illness and then with cancer. He was brave throughout his treatments and illness. Despite his challenges,
he kept a positive attitude.
Peter enjoyed much support and friendship from the CMHA and their staff. CMHA made it possible for Peter to live in his own home where he cherished his independence. Family would like to acknowledge the sensitive care and compassion provided by the staff at CMHA - especially
Mary Leah McBean who went out of her way to help Peter with his challenges in life. Mary's attentive care helped Peter to feel safe and
valued as a person.
Peter spent his last few months of life at the Palliative care unit at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. We would like to express our thanks to Dr Matheson and the PCU team for the excellent and compassionate care Peter received.
A private family celebration of life was held on September 30, 2018. Peter will be missed by all of us.
We hope that he is now at peace.
Donations kindly can be made to the Peterborough Mental Health Association or the Palliative Care Unit at Peterborough Regional Health Centre in Peter’s memory.
