Passed away after a courageous battle with ALS on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Loving and devoted husband to Sharon for 58 years.
Proud father to Sherry (Harold), Rob (Jody), and Randy. Cherish grandfather of Rachel (Ben), Nicole (George), Trevor (Vanessa), Mitchell (Ella), Brady, Faith and always Rylie. Great Grandfather of Mia, Freddie, Rory, Jack, Milo, Daisy and Walker.
Bob was born and raised on the family farm on Warsaw Road in Douro. It was there that his roots were planted and his strong work ethic began. He later met and married his wife, Sharon, and together they raised their three children—Sherry, Rob, and Randy—building their first home just across the road from the farm.
After 14 years, Bob and his family returned to the family farm, where they spent five years working the land while he also worked full-time with the Peterborough County Roads Department. During that time, he proudly farmed Limousin cattle. In 1987, they built another home off the farm property on the 9th Line of Douro, continuing to grow their life together.
Bob dedicated 31 years to the Roads Department, working countless midnight shifts and braving early winter mornings. His dedication and perseverance were a testament to the kind of man he was—reliable, hardworking, and committed.
For 12 years, he gave his time, energy, and heart to Douro Township, serving as a councillor with genuine care for every resident.
Later in life, Bob and Sharon built their final home—his dream Northern retreat. Bob loved the outdoors. For over 50 years, he hunted at Bear Creek Hunt Club, a place he considered his own piece of heaven. Next to his family, hunting with his fellow hunters was his greatest passion.
Bob was deeply involved in his community. He coached hockey and baseball, umpired church league ball, and was a charter member of the Optimist Club for over 20 years. He truly lived a full and adventurous life—one that could have easily filled a book.
To some, he was known as “The Weekend Warrior.” To others, he was the man who would always lend a hand whenever it was needed. Bob was always there—dependable, generous, and kind.
He was one of the hardest-working men you could ever meet, even after being diagnosed with ALS. Bob fought a courageous battle and never gave up.
On Tuesday, April 21st, we said goodbye to our family’s hero—but his legacy, strength, and love will live on in all who knew him.
Special thanks to all ALS and Peterborough Regional Health Centre Palliative Care Team Members.
A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 2 - 6 p.m. at the Douro Community Centre.
For those who wish, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to ALS Canada or Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
