It is with great sadness that we announce that our mom, Ruth Margaret Wood (original last name and first married name Belvin) died at the age of 92 on Sunday, January 21st after a brave battle with pneumonia. While in the hospital, she impressed all of her caregivers with her humour, fortitude and compassion. Ruth was daughter to Edith and Wesley Brown and sister to Mel and was loving wife to Stuart Eugene Belvin, who was the love of her life, until he was tragically taken from her in 1971. She enjoyed living in the Apsley area in her later years, running Birchcliffe Cottages on Chandos Lake before moving to town where her last residence was Spruce Corners. She is survived by her children Gord Belvin, Bev Assinck, Sue Assinck, and Wayne Belvin. Mom had a particular love and connection to her daughter-in-law Dianne and was ‘Mom’ to Andy and Rita. She had also become ‘Mom in kind’ to Susan and Catherine, her late best friend Thelma’s daughters. She will be sadly missed by them as well as other family and friends who crowded around our holiday dinner tables or played Bingo with her on Wednesday nights. Ruth had seven grandchildren-Peggy, Patrick (and his wife Tash), Rob, Kristen (and her partner Travis), Noelle, Trevor, and Quinn. There are many others who considered her ‘Grandma’ and will miss her dearly as well. And, she was so happy to have had this past year with her precious great-grand daughter, Mackenzie (daughter of Patrick and Tash). Mom wanted a simple cremation with no service, but asked for us to have a family party for her later on and to scatter her ashes in the north, on the land she loved so much. Mom, the impact you had on the lives of so many will be remembered with love. Any donations in her honour can be sent to the Peterborough Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.comstockkaye.com.
