Mark and family, please accept my sincere condolences.  Sam sounds like he followed in your footsteps Mark, I'm sure he was an amazing young man. I am so very sorry for your great loss. Sandy Lockwood (worked in the Base Hospital Program with paramedics and went white water canoeing with Mark and other paramedics).

Two weeks every summer, we would visit our Canadian Family in Eagle Lake, Ontario.  Pine forest, crystalline lakes, canoeing, swimming, boating, and fishing.  Many kids would be overwhelmed by the options, but most kids didn’t have a cousin and best friend like Sam.  I can’t remember a summertime without Sam.  He was my immediate best friend as soon as we got back together every year and reluctant partner in “Canadian Crime”.  When we were smaller, it would immediately be time for hide n go seek, swimming, or feeding the chipmunks.  When we were older, it was sneaking the boat out after dark, trying to steal a Labatts Blue (that may have been Zach and I), or running the minibike up Sir Sam’s Ski Slope as far as we could until we flipped over.  Sam was kind, gentle, and caring.  He was my best friend for those two weeks every year, and I’m sure anyone who met him felt that same welcoming light.  The world is worse off with you gone.  Whenever I brush by the hemlocks, smell fresh pine, or dunk in crisp, cool waters, I’ll be thinking of you.  Love you Sam!

To the entire extended Swain family. I want to extend my most sincerest regrets for the loss of your loved one.  While I never had the opportunity to work a whole lot with Sam I always respected who he was and where he had come from.  His father and brother share something that few can understand ,which is the family you develop through long hours worked together, and years shared working to help the community. This time spent together develops a bond that few can understand. It is this very bond shared by all those Sam worked with, that has affected and touched us all so deeply. We were not blood but we all feel we are family.  Sam, you will be missed greatly. Not just for everything you shared with us on a daily basis but also for everything you gave back to us were fortunate enough to know and work with you. You were one of the good ones Sam and your Paramedic family is better for knowing you.  We will take it from here....

Dear Mark, Amy, Zach (Tori), Sabrina (Sanjay), and Families.
We were saddened and shocked to learn about the passing of Sam.  
We have so many wonderful memories of Sam when you lived at Lakeview Estates and when he attended St Luke's Catholic School.
Sam chummed with Jamie and they had many good  times together, and it was always a pleasure having Sam at our place.

Sam was one of the best humans I've ever known. Good-natured, helpful, kind, polite, gracious, giving, and reliable. I was looking forward to exploring many more rivers with him. Sharon, Aaron, and Ana - you should know that he talked often and fondly of you all around the fire, and loved you dearly. We will miss him. Deepest sympathies to all the family.

Please accept our heartfelt sympathies. We never met Sam, but we could easily see how happy he made Sharon. We heard all about him through wonderful stories. He was a true blessing in Sharon's life an the lives of her children. Being a paramedic takes courage and love and Sam seemed to have both in abundance! Bless you all! 

We met through animal rescue, surprise surprise. You instantly made my world a happier place!  You travelled to Cuba for me, and I climbed a beaver dam for you! It was a match made!  I miss you so very much, honey… give Ichy a pat for me 💜 Until we meet again.
