

Of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, Peterborough neighbourhood, entered into the joy of eternal life, on February 3rd in the 64th year of her religious life. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary (O’Heron) Hynes of Peterborough. Along with the members of her religious community she leaves to mourn her brother-in-law Henry Bensler, and her nieces Margaret Mary Dorgan and Cheryl Manley.
She was predeceased by her brother Herbert and her sisters Marcella Dorgan and Marie Bensler.
Sister Bernadette had a very fulfilling life during which she enjoyed many years of service in the health care ministry. During the years from 1952-1992 Sister worked as a nurse, operating room supervisor, obstetrics supervisor, and director of nursing services, Assistant Administrator and supervisor of the Nurses’ Residence and Residence Director. She served at St. Joseph’s Hospitals in Peterborough, Parry Sound and Estevan, Saskatchewan. By 1991 Sr. Bernadette had spent 46 years in the Health Care Service since her first training days in Hamilton.
Sister also served her Congregation as local leader and council member. Between the years 1994- 2007 she worked at the Casa Maria Refugee Homes and in the General Treasury Office at Mount St. Joseph. Her current ministry was as coordinator of hospitality at the Mount and she continued to assist with the Congregation’s ministry to refugee families.
Visitation will be at Mount St. Joseph, 1555 Monaghan Road, on Wednesday, February 5th, 2014 from 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough, on Thursday, February 6th at 10:30 a.m.
