ALI, Vali – Passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, at Toronto General Hospital, on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 77 years of age. Vali, beloved husband of Janet for 46 years. Loving father of Michael (wife Jennifer Benson), Jen and the late Simon. Dear ‘Grand-dad’ of Megan & Rachel. Loving brother of Gary (wife Fatima). Son of the late Shookur Ali & Batulan (nee Syne). Dear brother-in-law of Liz & John Newall. Vali will be missed by many other relatives and friends in Canada, Trinidad and England. Vali was involved in many community groups including the Council for Persons with Disabilities Peterborough (CPD), Boy Scouts of Canada and was a long-time member of the Chemong & Peterborough Lions Clubs. Visiting will be held at the COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street, on Wednesday, August 18, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and continue at GEORGE STREET UNITED CHURCH, 534 George St. North, on Thursday, August 19, from noon until the funeral service begins at 1 pm. Reverend Karen Ptolemy-Stam officiating. A Lions service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the 7 pm visiting. Donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada (Dog Guides) or the MS Society would be gratefully acknowledged. Online condolences may be made at

We at the Kawartha Amateur Radio Group Club / Peterborough Amateur Radio Club had the privilege of meeting and talking with Vali during his several visits to the Club and the added pleasure of again meeting with him through the years at the annual "Dog Walks for the Blind"
He was a delightful, always cheerful gentleman. We'll miss him

I will really miss having Vali around, seeing his smile, hearing him laugh, always ready to capture the moment on film. Vali was a kind and gentle soul, who dedicated himself to helping others.
