November 18, 1937 – March 29, 2025
Walter passed away peacefully in his home thanks to the excellent care of the palliative team under the supervision of Dr. Becca Webster. He is predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis; survived by his wife, Julie; his son, Joe (Karen); his stepdaughter, Lyn (D’Arcy); and his stepson, Doug (Marlene). Walter is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren in Ontario, British Columbia, and Texas, as well as sisters, Irma and Sylvia and their families in Austria.
Walter came to Canada as a teenager, skilled in the Tool & Die trades, and began work in Dresden, Ontario. He started his own Tool & Die business in 1961 out of a garage in Wallaceburg, expanding it rapidly into a large, Five Star Tool & Die plant with many workers, servicing the auto industry in Windsor and Detroit. He was the epitome of a young skilled trades worker who found success in Canada.
Throughout his life, Walter enjoyed skiing, boating, travelling, and golfing. He was a very successful and competitive golfer. He won numerous club championships and had 13 holes in one. He enjoyed German music and dancing the polka – especially when beer and schnitzel were included. He was an amazing man with the tools to build anything you wanted, including a horse racing game, train sets, and little villages complete with solar power.
Cremation has taken place, and the family will have a private celebration at a later date.
