After a hard fought two year battle that he was determined to beat, Wayne passed away peacefully on Sunday January 4, 2026 at Hospice Peterborough at the age of 66. Beloved husband of the late Carla to whom he will finally be reunited with. Devoted and loving father of Aaron (Terra), Shane and Kayla Moloney. Loving grandfather of Brady. Son of Lorraine Moloney (late “Homer”). Brother of Michael (Deb), Roseanne Hubbard (Richard), David (Cindy), Glenn (Shelly), Brenda Keating (Terry), Frank (Jean), Dennis (Carol Lemm) and Sarah (Greg White). Loving uncle to many nephews and nieces. Wayne was a passionate and hard-working employee of Bothwell-Accurate for over 30 years.
Wayne lived life with enthusiasm, loyalty, and a deep love of family, sport and community. A gifted and passionate athlete from a young age, he played all-star hockey and baseball from mite through midget, finishing his hockey career with the Lindsay Trent Muskies. One particularly memorable game saw him break three sticks — a testament to his intensity, strength, and determination. His love of sport never faded, and he remained an avid sports fan throughout his life.
That competitive spirit carried into his teamwork off the ice as well. He proudly represented Peterborough at the renowned Quebec City International Pee Wee Tournament in 1970, an experience he always held close. Later in life, he continued to enjoy camaraderie and competition as a valued teammate alongside his brothers on the Irish Waxers ball hockey team for many years.
Together with his beloved wife, Carla, he created a beautiful life rooted in love, hard work, and dedication. Side by side, they built their family home on Hewitt Drive — a place filled with laughter, warmth, and memories that would shape their lives and those of their three children. They worked tirelessly to provide their children with an incredible life, one filled with opportunities to play sports, explore their passions, and travel together each year to somewhere warm, creating cherished family memories that will be held close forever.
His work ethic was unmatched. He dedicated over 45 years to the International Brotherhood of Sheet Metal Workers Local 30, working across Ontario and earning the respect of colleagues through his skill, reliability, and commitment to his trade. His two sons Aaron and Shane were able to work side by side with their father, the greatest mentor they could have. Aaron spent 25 years, and Shane 20 respectively.
Known for his appreciation of fine moments and lifelong passions, he owned his first Corvette at just 17 years old, later enjoying three more in his later years. He also cherished the opportunity to attend the Masters Golf Tournament as a patron — an experience that brought him immense joy.
Family meant everything to him. He was a devoted and unwavering supporter of his children, encouraging them to follow their dreams wholeheartedly, no matter where life led them. Wayne (Papa Corvette) cherished his relationship with his only Grandson Brady, who he shared many years of great memories with. He especially treasured his trips to Australia to visit his brother Michael and his family, journeys filled with laughter, connection, and lasting memories.
Above all, his legacy lives on through his children and the lives they continue to build in his honour, with deep gratitude for the love, support, and opportunities he so generously gave. He will be remembered for his passion for life, his love of sport and the pride he took in both his work and his family. His spirit also endures in the stories shared, the games remembered, and the many lives he touched.
Family and friends will be received at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre 356 Rubidge Street from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Friday January 9, 2026. Funeral mass will follow at St. Anne’s Church 859 Barnardo Avenue at 1:00 pm, followed by reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Peterborough would be greatly appreciated by the family.
