Dad,  its been just over a year since you passed and we all miss you so much.  Hope you got the balloons we sent. I'm glad that you and mom have found each other again. We think of you everyday and I miss your daily calls. I wish we could talk of our Ireland trip. We have done house reno's and I'm sure you would love them. Bill and Ken frequently had late night 'two beer' telephone conversations.  After Ken ... Bill regularly called on me to offer support and share stories of Ken  -  (one-tea phone calls for us). Just before the family reunion at Rick's we talked. As always the discussion came around to some wonderful trip he had been on, his girls, his grandchildren and of course Dorothy.  Bill loved, enjoyed and was so proud of his family.
A man of poise and courage, completely engaged in the full life he had.

                                       Barbershopping and the sound of your laugh, The family stories you shared  and the interest you showed in all of us,   the heartfelt words you stood up and presented at each family gathering....

The last of that amazing Band of Hofstetter Brothers has left us  -  these boys who grew up in that big house on Ontario Street  having numerous adventures and 'digging holes to China'.....  
One can only imagine what they are up to now that they are all together again.

To us, Uncle Bill always brought a certain dignity to an event, whether it was a happy event or a sad one. He talked with you, not to you. He showed genuine warmth and interest in you and how you were doing. He was part of a wonderful 2 person team that showed true love for each other. Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Bill raised 2 wonderful women who continue to reflect the love that was evident between their parents within their own families. We will miss his heartfelt speeches at our family reunions. Thankfully Aunt Dorothy has enough love in her to carry them both.

I've just looked through the pictures and am amazed at how much fun and activity Uncle Bill was able to squeeze into his life! Good for you Uncle Bill! It looks like you had a life full of adventure together, Aunty Dorothy!  know I will certainly miss Uncle Bill's speeches at our family gatherings - always lending a dignified rhythm to the moment! He was so kind and interested in everyone - he made me feel as though I was a dear friend to him even though we saw each other only once a year. He will be missed by all of our family. We send you, Uncle Bill; Aunty Dorothy; Peggy; Cathy; and your families our prayers and best wishes through these difficult days.

Bill Hofstetter was a colleague in the Peterborough Prostate Cancer Support Group, but above all he was a friend who enjoyed good company and, despite his blindness, he enjoyed life to the full. He was an eloquent speaker who took an active part in the Prostate Cancer Support Group and was frequently called upon to thank guest speakers. But Bill will be remembered by some of us as a lively participant in our informal discussions over coffee or beer, when he would regale us with stories of his past and help us to solve the problems of the world.  We will miss him greatly, and our deep sympathies go to Dorothy and their family. Goodbye Bill, you were one of a kind.

To an incredible man who knew so much about his family, friends and the ways of life.  We will miss you very much, your warmth in your voice and your incredible happiness towards everyone you met in life.  We will miss you at the family reunions as well as the family get together's.  Who will wear the shirt with the picture of the Hofstetter generations on it that you would wear to all the family events.  We will always remember you and our deepest sympathy goes out to all the family you have left behind.  We are so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man.

Bill was born with wings so he never crawled through life.  And on those wings, he carried us to many a wonderful memory, created a tapestry of stories that we still relate to other friends worldwide and flew through many setbacks.  How we marveled at his ability to cope and laugh at his situation.  We will miss you and regret not having had a chance to say goodbye.  Rest in peace!

Uncle Bill, we will miss you terribly. Rick said it the best. The last of the Hofstetter men. Imagine the parties they will be having watching down at us all! I remember fondly the speeches you gave at all the family functions, happy or sad we could depend on you for words. Especially, for Judy when no one could come up with the words to say, you pulled through as always.

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child.  My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.

Uncle Bill was such an important part of the Hofstetter family.  Will miss his speeches and love of life.  He was always so cheerful and loved our family reunions.  We will really miss him.  We send Aunt Dorothy, Peggy and Kathy and all of the family our deepest sympathies.

Well where do I start, I have known my uncle Bill all of my life, I don't remember our first meeting, but I bet I was only a few days old and I'm sure that he and my aunt Dorothy, probably held me. I was a pretty big celebrity back then, being the second grandchild and the first boy born into Grandpa's second family. (Grandpa's first wife had passed away)Moving forward I don't remember too much else until Peggy and Kathy came along. It seems that those two girls were always there, even though I am several years older I don't remember them ever not being around. 
    I recall Bill telling me a story about when he worked for Raypack, (a heating manufacturer)how he had to pay off one of my bosses at the company I was working for with a large colour TV so that they would buy his heating units. He never really liked that too much as I think he had to pay for it out of his commission. But knowing the guy he was talking about, I knew it was true. 
    It was about 9 or so years ago that the family gathered together to celebrate Bill and Dorothy's 50th wedding anniversary at the Prince Hotel, that in itself is an incredible feat. I have been honoured to go with Bill and Dorothy to see Dorothy and her singing group "The Sweet Adelines" perform at the Mississauga Living Arts Center on two ocassions and to go with Bill to see Barber Shop singing practices a few time and then join the gang at the pub for a sing song afterwords. 
    I have seen Peggy and Kathy grow from little girls, with little pixie haircuts, into very pretty teenage girls, and then into women who both married great guys. I know that the family values that Bill and Dorothy instilled in the girls has been carried on, it is so plain to see, all you have to do is look at the grandchildren and you can see it, any father or mother would be proud to have children like these three. I have had the privilege of speaking to Bill many times over the last 13 (since my own father passed on)and have heard many stories about my dad and the family in general. He even told me some information about my uncle Richard, whom I am named after. I was able to go and see Bill one last time last Sunday, with Ashleigh and I am so glad I did, he was tired and in some pain, but he never complained, I talked about him going home, but he knew it was not going to happen, he had no fear of dying, but his last thoughts were on Dorothy, and how she would be, and who would take care of her, He loved his girls and his wife and his grandchildren and he knew that both Peggy and Kathy have great husbands. He knew his work here was done and he was ready to go. 
    I am deeply saddened that we have lost the last of the Hofstetter men. What a great bunch of guys, each time that we lost another one of them it reminded me about the ones who went first. The pain of loosing all of our past family members, eases as time goes on, they are never forgotten, and they live on in our hearts.
    I hope that Dorothy, Peggy and Kathy and the rest of your families, will soon find peace in this difficult time. It may not feel like it right now, but time will ease your pain, and your tears will dry. You have all of us family members behind you and beside you, and if you need us, we'll be there for you now and always.... all my love your cousin Rick

I will miss Bill.  He was and still is an important part of my life  and our family.  I will miss his voice, his way of welcoming me into his life.  I can still hear him talking and feel his warm embrace.  I can hear his laugh.  He'll always be in my thoughts.
