With profound sadness, we announce the passing of William (Bill) Howard Turner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world on April 25, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with complications from a stroke that occurred in October 2024. Born on February 26, 1943, in Peterborough, Ontario, Bill was the cherished son of Bill and Bette Turner and the loving brother of Dr. Douglas Turner and Mark Turner.
Bill’s life was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to his family. He married the love of his life, Gaye Nyberg, on October 7, 1967, and together they built a life filled with joy and adventure of travel over their remarkable 57 years of marriage. Bill was a devoted father to his three children: Kellie Bonner (nee Turner) and her husband Gord, Bill Turner and his wife Heather, and Matt Turner and his wife Tracy. He was the proud grandfather of six, who brought endless delight and pride to his life: Brad, Alex, and Jack Bonner, and Billy, Evie, and Molly Turner.
Growing up in Peterborough, Bill attended Central and Queen Alexander public schools, often playing at Inverlee Park, where he developed a passion for sports that would last a lifetime. His athletic journey continued at PCVS high school, where he shone on the basketball and football teams. After graduating, Bill pursued an Economics degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, which he completed in 1968. That same year, he joined his father’s family business, Ford Plumbing and Heating, marking the beginning of a lifelong commitment to his work and community.
In the early 1980s, Bill embarked on an entrepreneurial adventure, co-founding Triple T Holdings with his father and brother Mark, focusing on condo development. Over the years, he proudly welcomed his sons Bill Jr. and Matt into the family business, which continues to thrive and develop communities to this day.
Bill’s love of sports endured well into adulthood. He played in the city basketball league until the age of 56, demonstrating his passion and competitive spirit. A true water enthusiast, Bill spent his summers at the family cottage on Stony Lake, where he mastered sailing and slalom skiing, skills he eagerly passed down to his children and grandchildren. For the past 20 years, he and Gaye created cherished memories at their cottage on Steenburg Lake, surrounded by family and the beauty of nature.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes, there will be a private family gathering to commemorate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his memory.
Bill Turner’s legacy is one of unwavering love, strength, resilience and the importance of family. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, especially his family, who will carry his memory in their hearts forever. Rest in peace, dear Bill. Your love and laughter will forever be cherished.
