She was born March 22, 1920 to Dan and Meta (Itz) Loeffler in Mason, Texas. She was baptized at Hilda Lutheran Church on May 16, 1920 and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Mason on August 11, 1935. She married Hudson Powell at St. Paul Lutheran Church on September 1, 1940. Hudson and Alma lived in Temple for nine years, and returned to Austin in 1979. She was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she was an active member.
Mom was a homemaker. She was a seamstress, an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed decorating birthday cakes and pies, and always kept the cookie jar full for Dad! She loved to dance and played the harmonica and piano by ear. She also enjoyed doing yard work and catching the biggest fish.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Nettie Hartmann and brother, Wesley Loeffler, and their spouses.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Hudson Powell; her children, Pat, Kenny, Peggy, Greg and their spouses; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); and one great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother, Andy Loeffler and wife Vicki of Fredericksburg; sister-in-law, Edna Miller of Austin; brother-in-law, Billy Powell of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation to be held from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
