Alois was born October 16, 1932, to Atlan and Elda (Keilers) Marburger at the old La Grange Hospital. He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church, Warrenton. The first nine years of his life were spent in the small community of Oldenburg, Texas, where his parents and grandparents, Otto and Louise Marburger, shared a large two story home behind the cotton gin they owned. He began his education at the Oldenburg Country School.
In 1941, Alois and his parents moved to La Grange where he completed his education at La Grange Schools. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in La Grange. In 1950, the Air Force became his career for the next 25 years and he served his country in active combat in Korea.
Alois married the love of his life, Annie Pavlicek, on June 14, 1954, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg. His Air Force career took them to many interesting places stateside as well as 2 tours of duty in Germany. Three children were born while they were stationed in Rapid City, South Dakota.In 1975, the family relocated to Austin, Texas, where his second career as a U.S. postman began. He retired in 1995.
Alois loved his family and enjoyed working with the Optimist Club, making casino trips, hunting, and making deer sausage with family and friends. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church for most of his Austin years. Most recently, he was a member of Triumphant Love Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years on June 5, 2016 and his parents. He is survived by 2 daughters, Debra (Richard) Bailey and Yvonne Marburger; and one son, Edward Marburger. Six grandchildren , namely Megan Moore, Sarita Marburger, Christopher Doremus, Ryan Lovejoy, Amanda Peel, and Allison Bailey brought many happy moments to his life as did his only great-granchild, Hailey Doremus. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, (Elvie) Jean and Curvey Weber and Marceil and Neal Prestridge.
Funeral services will be held in The Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 2 with burial immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, The Optimist Club of Austin, or the charity of your choice.
