

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, Alvin Winifred Cox on August 20, 2024, at the age of 90. Alvin entered the world on December 15, 1933, the fourth child, and only son, born to Alvin Runnels and Eva Mae Cox. He grew up in Round Rock and graduated from Round Rock High School in 1952. On July 23, 1954, he married his sweetheart, Betty Lee Adams. Together they raised sons Jerry and Ricky and daughters Brenda and Tracy. He is survived by his children, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Margaret Scott and Johnnie Pecht, three generations of nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Cox, son, Larry Winifred Cox, parents Alvin Runnels and Eva Mae Cox Kaatz, step-father Herman Kaatz, sisters Oweta and husband Bud Warren, Oleta and husband Tom Maxwell, Ivon and husband Otto Lentz, in-laws Nels and Emelia Adams, granddaughter Bridget Harris, sister-in-law Lil Daniels, brothers-in-law William (Bub) Adams and wife Alice, James Adams and wife Nadine, brothers-in-law Harold Scott and Leslie Pecht, nephews Harold Scott and Buddy Barnes, nieces Karen Montez and Kelly Kirkpatrick, great-niece Rebecca Rodriguez.
Alvin enjoyed his life journey growing up and raising a family in Round Rock. He loved sharing stories of riding bikes as a young boy exploring McNeil and Round Rock with best friends Wilbur Roberts and Bobby Warren. He and lifelong friend Franklin Anderson would often reminisce about the mighty Round Rock Dragons. With Alvin in the backfield and Franklin at the guard post, they led the Dragons to District 51-52. Alvin was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Over the years he raised a family, coached Little League baseball, was a member of the Round Rock Lions Club, experienced losses of loved ones and friends, enjoyed hunting, fishing, football, class reunions, spending time with family and friends.
Family graveside services on Sept. 9, 2024, at 10:00 am followed by a reception. The family invites everyone to join us at a reception celebrating Alvin’s life at Cook Walden Capital Parks, 14501 N. IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas.
