Alvino retired from USPS after 30 years, where he received several superior performance awards. He was active in the East Austin Community, serving on the Pan-American Recreation Association, member of the East Austin Lions Club and coached for many years Pony Baseball League at Govalle Park. He was recognized several times for his volunteer work in the community. Alvino was one of first six inductees into Annual Sports Fest Hall of Honor 1980. In 2012, he participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to see the WWII Memorial.
Alvino was preceded in death by grandson, Seth Mendoza, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Oralia Treviño Mendoza.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Rebecca Vasquez Mendoza; seven children: Alvin Mendoza, Lockhart, Texas; Becky M. Weaver (Robert), San Antonio, Texas; Esperanza M. Rosales (Jesus), Austin, Texas; Samuel Mendoza, Pflugerville, Texas; Benjamin Mendoza (Evangelina), Austin, Texas; Caleb Mendoza and Seth Mendoza, Sr., Austin, Texas; Grandchildren: Josh Mendoza (Deneiece); Brittany Mendoza Scott (Cody) both of Lockhart, Texas; Tiersa Weaver Levasseur and Aaron Weaver (Heather) both of San Antonio, Texas; Noemi Rosales Alvarado, Austin, Texas; Miriam Rosales Gonzalez (David) of Pflugerville, Texas; Benjamin M. Mendoza, Jr. (Marisa); Daniel M. Mendoza (Christina) both of San Antonio, Texas; Jonathan J. Mendoza (Courtney) of Lufkin, Texas and Sheena Mendoza of Buda, Texas; 15 Great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
