Mary Ann Rattikin Thurman, at the age of 91, passed away peacefully in her own home, as were her wishes, on Dec. 14, 2022, after a very courageous and inspirational 3+ year battle with two types of cancers.
Ann was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas and it was there that she met her future husband Bill Thurman. She was the Salutatorian for Paschal High School. She went on to attend TCU and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in History with a minor in Anthropology from the University of Texas. She received the distinguished Phi Beta Kappa Award for earning all A’s throughout her years in college and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
She lived a full Christian life with her family. Ann was also very involved in non-profit organizations like Suicide Prevention and many others. While living in Ft. Worth, TX, Ann formed and ran Wedgewood Youth Center, was the Methodist Youth Fellowship Director at Wedgewood Methodist Church, worked part time at Rattikin Title Company, owned a clothing sample shop at home and she was also the MYF Director at St. Marks Methodist Church.
After moving to Austin in 1971, Ann and Bill became the co-owners of Gracy Title Company in Austin and owned it till Bill retired. Her father Jack Rattikin Sr. purchased Gracy Title in the 1940’s. She and Bill were members for many years at First United Methodist Church and a very active member of their “Wedding Ring” Sunday School class. They were charter members of Hope Presbyterian and attended Westlake Presbyterian Church. The remainder of her life they were members of Hill Country Bible Church in Cedar Park where Bill is still a member. In the 1970’s she was co-owner of the “Cedar Chest” clothing store with two locations in Cedar Park and Round Rock. She also volunteered as a Caregiver Driver.
Her passion was Genealogy. She would travel to Salt Lake City twice a year to do research there as well as do research at other places around the United States and around the world on some of their many trips. Her other hobbies were travel, photography (she always gave copies of photos to anyone who was in her pictures), was an avid fiction reader and an amazing shopper!
She was preceded in death by her parents William Jackson Rattikin, Sr. and Annie Lee Sandel Rattikin and her son Timothy Bryce Thurman. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, William (Bill) Horace Thurman, also known as “Chief” to the family, her daughter Melonie Ann (Thurman) Woods and husband David Andy Woods, daughter Debra Delane (Thurman) Killgore and husband Kenneth Jack Killgore, Jr., son Victor Trent Thurman and wife Jinoeva C.
