After graduating from high school a year early, she married James Wendell Gifford in 1947. After leaving the farm in 1950, they moved to Austin, Texas, which they loved as their home. Before retiring in 1993, Audrey worked for 35 years for the State of Texas, the last 29 at the Department of Public Safety as a Crime Analyst in the Criminal Intelligence Service.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008 after almost 61 years of marriage.
She is survived by her son James Gifford, wife Linda; Daughters Marie Gifford, Rita Havelka, husband Steve; and Julia Alexander, husband Silas. She had eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Hazel Philpot and extended family Leslye Norton and Jason Nichols and family.
A graveside service for Audrey will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or charity of your choice.
