She was preceded in death by her Mother, Father, brothers Marvin Brown, Maurice Brown, James Lowell and sister Dorothy Jones. She is survived by her devoted husband Roscoe (Rock) Parker; three children Lisa Carr (Curtis) of Pflugerville, Texas, Sterling Brown(Angela) of Sherman, Texas and Angela Brown of Pflugerville, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jason Carr, Sherrick Thompson, Brandon Carr, Shantavia Monroe, Jaquila Dunlap, Sterling S Brown, Satija Dunlap and D’Marcus Shepard; nine great grandchildren, Rylee, Madison, Kaely, Zadie, Trinitee, Major, Lavanna, Averie, Rico and brother Demetrius Brown (Christine) of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Barbara graduated from Fred Douglas High School in Sherman, Texas. She has lived and worked in Austin, TX for the past 43 years and retired from IBM in Austin. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She belonged to St Stephens Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, TX where she was an active member of the Women’s Mission at the Church. She demonstrated her faith by always being there for family and friends. She never met a stranger. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with all her kids/grand kids, attending activities involving her great grandchildren and babysitting the little ones. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling with Rock to different places, watching basketball and football especially cheering for their favorite team, the Washington Redskins. She loved talking to her lifelong best friend JoEllen Alston and cousin Glenna Faye Bowens every day and watching her three favorite TV shows, Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith and Family Feud.
A viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Greater Love Baptist Church 6601 Manor Rd Austin, Texas 78723. Funeral services will begin directly afterwards at 1:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
