

Ben Whitfield Brigham, age 95, of Austin, was born on May 17, 1929 in Edna, Texas and was the 5th son out of 9 children born to Will and Lelia Brigham. Ben passed away on March 14, 2025 in Austin, Texas. He attended the Colored Public School in Edna, before moving to San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated from St. Peter Claver High School in 1948.
After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he worked twenty-two years before retiring as a Master Sergeant. While stationed in Japan, he met and married his loving wife Hatsuko. They were blessed with a daughter, Yuri.
After retiring from the Air Force, Ben was hired by the City of Austin where he worked until he retired in 1988. Ben was a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. He wrote various safety articles that he shared with the National Council. Some excerpts from his articles are printed in the National Safety Council’s Drivers Safety Pamphlets.
Ben became a member of the Church of Christ in Fussa, Japan, 1962. During his Christian Walk, he served as a Deacon in Victorville, CA, a Deacon at the congregation near Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, and as an Elder at the Wheless Lane congregation.
Ben is preceded in death by his daughter, Yuri; his parents and his five brothers. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Hatsuko, three sisters, and a sister-in-law. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow church members, caretakers, and friends.
A visitation for Ben will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Church of Christ at East Side, 5701 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m.
A graveside service will follow at Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. A repast for the family will occur Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Wheless Lane Church of Christ, 2702 Wheless Lane in Austin.
