Bennie Laffere died peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 75 surrounded by his loving family and pastor, Emily Owen. He was born in Cameron, TX to George and Bennye Laffere and grew up in Lake Jackson, TX. He moved to Austin to attend college where he met his wife, Karen. He was overjoyed at the birth of his children, Reid and Lindsey and enjoyed spending time with them both as children and as adults.
He worked in the construction management business for over 40 years building apartments in Texas, Oklahoma, and North Carolina. He worked hard both during his career and after retirement and was a perfectionist in all that he did. He preferred to be outside and was most often found working in the church yard, his yard at home or at the family lake house.
He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. He was an avid reader and kept up with current events until his death. He was a quiet man and didn’t often volunteer his opinion but would share it when asked. If he didn’t agree with another’s viewpoint, he graciously remained silent.
He was a compassionate and loving man often stepping in when he saw someone in need. When a neighbor needed to paint his house but couldn’t afford to do so, Bennie bought the paint for him. If a friend was unable to mow his yard, Bennie did so without being asked or expecting thanks.
Bennie faced everything in life with dignity, courage, and determination. He always had a positive outlook, and many lives were blessed by his presence and giving nature.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bennie is survived by his loving wife, Karen and his children Reid and Lindsey. A special thank you to Reverend Emily Owen of Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, for her comfort and strength in their difficult times. We are also grateful for the love and support that we have received from others.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. Interment will follow at 1:00 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX. Memorials can be made in Bennie’s name to Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, Austin, TX,
