Bernard Shepherd is second child born to the late Louis Allen Shepherd Sr. and Elnora Cooper. Bernard had four loving siblings Louis Allen Shepherd, Jr., of St. Louis, MO, Steven K. Shepherd (Marilla) of Lansdale, PA, Linda Shepherd Whaley, (Russell) of Elkins Park, PA, and Sandra Shepherd Thomas, (Sam) of Huntington, New York.
Bernard Shepherd was baptized at an early age and was a member of Mount Jezeel Baptist Church until entering the Military.
Bernard attended Washington D.C. School District and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1967. He also attended University of Texas for accounting. He went on to join the United States Army in 1968 retiring with 22 years of service in 1990. Bernard also retired as a cable technician from Southwestern Bell/ AT&T retiring at 33 years.
He leaves behind his wife Helen Shepherd sharing 53 years of loving memories. Sgt. Bernard and Helen Shepherd married on January 9, 1971 in Austin Texas. Sgt. Bernard fathered four children Shiela Horton, Terry Shepherd, Shiron Hill (Terence), and Ronald Shepherd. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and a tone of nieces and nephews.

Shepherd, better known as BJ, embodied the true essence of a man—a provider, protector, and beacon of integrity. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, instilling values that define the genuine meaning of manhood.
A visitation for Bernard will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 2:30 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, he will be laid to rest with full military honors at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
