Bertha Mae Hill

Bertha Mae Morris- Hill was called home on Sunday November 4, 2018. Bertha was born January 2, 1923 in Creedmoor Texas to Sidney Morris Sr. and Hattie Jane Meeks - Morris.

Bertha accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age while attending Center Union Baptist Church. Bertha became a member of Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. L. M. Roberts was Pastor, and is now under the leadership of Rev. Ricky Williams

In 1940, at the age of 17, Bertha married her better half Lee Edward Hill, to this union they had 10 children. Nola Hill- Horton, Jean Hill- Lewis, (Eddie Lewis), Edward Hill, Alvin Hill, Freddie Hill, Clancy Hill, Bertha Whitley (little Bertha), Johnnie Berry, and Ruby Hill- Johnson (The baby).

Bertha continued to live and work in Creedmoor until her husband passed in 1960 and then relocated to Austin Texas. Bertha worked various domestic jobs to provide for her and her children, and in 1973 she started working at the Seminary (now known as the Seminary Southwest) as a housekeeper. In 1985, after 12 years of service, Bertha retired.

Bertha was known as “Mama”, a women that loved her children unconditionally by all that knew her. She loved to cook, clean, take in ironing, sewing quilts, yard work, and her flowers and garden were her pride and joy.

Bertha was preceded in death by her Mom; Hattie Jane Meeks- Morris, Father; Sidney Morris Sr. Husband; Lee Edward Hill, Sons; Clancy, Hill, Larry Hill, Edward Hill, Alvin Hill Sr., Daughters; Nola Hill- Horton, Ruby Hill – Johnson, Grandson; Maurice Horton Jr (Marty), Brothers; Leslie Morris, Johnny Morris, Willie Morris, Sidney Morris Jr., Sisters; Earlene Morris (Pat) Ester Morris- Houston (Mae).

She leaves to cherish her memory, Son; Freddie Hill, Daughters; Jean Hill-Lewis (Eddie Lewis), Bertha Whitley, Johnnie Berry, Brothers; James Morris, Nathaniel Morris, Fred Morris, Sister; Annie Morris- Martinez all of Austin, Texas, Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
