

Betty Jean Hodge was born in Temple, Texas on July 24, 1929. Her family consisted of her father, Bill Standard; mother, Eugenia Standard; step-mother, Helen Standard; two brothers, Duane and Mack Standard; along with three sisters, Rose Moriarity, Louise Ingram, and Leta Stokes.
Betty attended high school in Temple, Texas, and then worked several years for American National Insurance Company.
In 1953, Betty met the man of her dreams, Henry Burnell Hodge. On July 31, 1954, she married her Darlin’, and their love thrived for 57 years. On October 25, 1955, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Eugenia Rose (Ginger). The birth of their son, Henry Burnell Jr. (Hank) completed their family. In 1966 the family moved to Austin, after spending several years in East Texas and Temple. Henry and Betty remained in Austin for the rest of their lives.
Betty loved camping with family, reading, taking photos and cooking. She was an excellent cook!
Betty was devoted to her family and friends, always willing to put their needs before her own. She was passionate about being a wife, mother and grandmother, working with Henry to provide a loving home for their family. She was known as “Sugar” by Henry, “Mama” by her children, and Mamaw” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty faithfully served the Lord and her church. For many years she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served her community through the ministries of First Baptist Church Wells Branch.
Betty greatly loved and cherished her husband, Henry; their children, Ginger and husband Mike Morgan and Hank and wife Candy; four grandchildren, Joni Escudero, Jenni and husband Matt Roemisch, Cheyenne and Hunter Hodge; and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Ethan Roemisch.
Betty was a woman of compassion, strength and generosity – full of fun with a great zeal for life.
Love for God and family is her everlasting gift.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to First Baptist Church Wells Branch, 15020 N. IH 35, Austin, Texas 78753.
