Betty Faye Izard Wiley was born on October 6th, 1931 in Harligen Texas, to Joseph Elbert Izard, and Hixie Louvenia Knowles Izard. Betty was one of 6 children. Family was so important to her, she was preceded in death by her husband and partner in life for over 60 year's, H. G. "Smokey" Wiley Jr. She is survived by her daughter Tennye Wiley Giotis, and her husband Charlie Giotis, as well as grandchildren Emily Nixon, Christopher Giotis and wife Jennifer Harper Giotis, Asher Giotis, Aften Giotis Serrano and husband Effrain Serrano, Brena Giotis Toscani and husband Jamie Toscani. Betty was blessed with 4 great grandchildren. Breanna and Alissa Nixon, and Lexas and Jericho Toscani, as well as 2 great great grandchildren. Addison Marquez and Jeremiah Rodriguez.
Betty valued family and heritage, and was a proud charter member of the Judge Greenleaf Fisk chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, as well as a member of the Choctaw Nation. She was also an active member of the Austin HAAM radio club. Call sign KD5DTC.
Growing up, Tennye has fond memories of her Mom being a Girls In Action leader, and taking her and her friends out to toilet paper houses, and do fun stuff. Tennye and her mom shared a love of Elvis Presley, sewing and crafting. And let's not forget the countless stories of Aunt Gladys and Uncle Archie and the Steaples boys, and memories of Betty and Aunt Gladys frying taco shells and all sorts of shenanigans.
Betty came to be called “Nana” when Asher was little, as she would say “Knock Knock” when she came into the house, and Asher would say “Tha Nana is here da Nana is here” She has been Nana to many ever since.
The grandkid's all have fond memories of Nana's Betty Boop Collection, and her amazing cakes. Many fond memories were had in the bakery, watching Nana decorate cakes, and of course there was the annual baking of Christmas Cookies. Lots of messes and icing and flour fights, but Nana wouldn't have it any other way. Betty truly valued making the most of every moment. She loved live music, and was always game for a road trip, or sitting with a good vinyl album. Especially during covid, Betty and Asher would go for drives in the car, and they would sing songs, and talk about life, and take in the beauty on Texas back roads, and some pretty glorious sunsets. One of her favorite songs in recent year's was by Cody Johnson, she would sing with hands in the air “I can't even walk, without you holding my hand”
Betty will be greatly missed, but we rejoice for her relief from the pain of this world, and the amazing and full life she had.
With Love,
The Family of Betty Wiley
