

Carolyn Ann Raines
November 12, 1940 to May 5, 2017
Carolyn Ann Raines went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2017. She died at 76 years of age after a long battle with pancreatitis with her two sisters at her side. Carolyn was born in Austin, Texas. She was a long-time resident of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Carlene Childress Raines and her beloved father, Vernon Harwood Raines. She was also preceded in death by her long-time friend of 40 years, Margot Mayfield. She is survived by her siblings, Jan Romeis and husband, Ron, of Redmond, Oregon, and Diane Newland and husband, Bob, of Midland, Texas. She is also survived by her nieces, Julie Romeis Sanders and husband, Chris, of Oakland, CA, and Carleigh Romeis of Seattle, WA. And also survived one great-niece, Cora Sanders, and many cousins and other family members.
Carolyn grew up in Austin and graduated from McCallum High School in 1958 . Music and the band was her love in high school. She played the cornet and was 1st chair cornet for several years. She then attended Southwest State Teachers College at San Marcos, Texas. She then applied to and was accepted for training at American Airlines Stewardess College in Class 60-10. In December of 1960, she graduated from the American Airlines Flight School and began a long successful career with American Airlines. For 42 years she flew around the world and made many lifelong friends … friendships that still exist today. In her last few years of flying, she served as the Senior Purser on AA flights. She also played on the AA Softball Team and enjoyed numerous good times with her co-workers. She was always admired and loved by many.
She loved her family, her animals, and music. As all her friends know, she was an avid University of Texas sports fan, especially UT Football.
The family wants to thank her caregivers, Monicah Mack and Maggie Rachuonyo for their support, prayers, and love that they gave her in her last year of life. Also, our special thanks to Diana and Marcus Estrada for their care and love.
Graveside services will be at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks, 14501 North IH 35, Pflugerville, TX, on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 11:00am. You may meet at the Funeral Home at the above address prior to the procession to the gravesite.
