

Carrie Inetta Williams was born January 28, 1938 in Smithville, TX to Henry and Lullaby (Jones) Burleson. She passed away peacefully in her home on January 25, 2016 after a long bout with Alzheimer’s.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lullaby Burleson and four siblings, Victoria Felix, Lorenzo Burleson, Earlie Burleson, and Bruce Burleson.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer Williams; children, Carlbert (Ellen) Williams and Sandra Williams; brothers, Lionel (Margie) Burleson, Curtis Wayne Burleson; sisters, Delores Wynn, Willene Cook, Ethel Scott, and Linda Martin, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Carrie’s church affiliations were with Grant Chapel AME Church and St. James Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas.
Carrie received her formal education at Center Union School and Smithville High School. She earned her Bachelor’s of Education at Huston-Tillotson College and a Master's degree at Prairie View A&M University. Carrie was an educator in the Austin Independent School District for 27 years, she also taught for two years with Lawton School District in Lawton, Oklahoma, and two years at Gary Job Corp. in San Marcos, Texas. Her love for teaching and learning inspired her to pursue public speaking as a member of Toastmasters and Toastmistress of America.
In 1982 she chartered a Toastmistress Club, LaHoma Toastmistress, in Lawton, Oklahoma. In 1994 she chartered the Act Nine Investment Club through NAIC Investments. Carrie was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. She was also an avid Bridge player.
Our family would like to thank the staff at New Century Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for her during the last year of life.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2016 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Grant AME Worship Center, 1701 Kramer Lane (78758). Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
