

Charles W. "Coach" Horn of Cedar Park, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on 23 July 1934 in a house on Eastern Avenue (now I-35 access road) in Austin, Texas, and grew up on Sinclair Avenue in the Rosedale neighborhood of Austin.
He graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School, Austin, Texas; Southwest Texas (now Texas State) University with a BS in Education and a specialization in English and Art; and from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, Texas with a Master's Degree in Special Education.
He was known as Coach Horn and worked as a coach and teacher at Nimitz Junior High School, Robert E. Lee High School and Churchill High School in San Antonio; and Westwood High School in Round Rock ISD. He also worked as an Artist, Musician, Writer, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather.
His greatest love was his role as husband to the love of his life, Bettie F. Horn, with whom he shared over 70 years. He was actively involved in the Lutheran Church. He was most known for his endless sense of humor and activities with family and friends - especially golf, camping, fishing, picking any instrument with strings, and playing with his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Karl W. Horn and Louise Symank Horn; his son, Charles W. Horn Jr.; his sisters, Dolores McQuiggin Ross and Evanell Bates; his step-granddaughter, Laura Pound; and his son-in-law, William (Bill) Pound Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie F. Horn, his children Julie Pound and Kyle Horn; his grandchildren Stephanie Plumley, Karl Horn, Autumn Horn; his great-grandchildren Johnnie Orgega and Diana Ortega; his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren Will Pound, Amelia Pound, Willow Pound, Brian Pound, Christopher Evans, Cameron Bullard, and Liz Bullard.
His last words were "Thank You," which captures his essence in a nutshell. He was grateful for everything and lived a life of happiness, encouraging others to pursue their interests, work out, and play golf.
The family would like to thank Tenesha Demus, primary caregiver, along with the third-floor doctors, nurses, and techs at St. David's Round Rock, and the team at Beacon House Hospice Round Rock for the care and compassion they showed Coach Charles and his family.
Family and friends are invited to attend services at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home for the Celebration of Life and reception. Guests are encouraged to bring their acoustic instruments for a commemorative music session.
Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660, US, on June 19, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location at 3 PM. Military honors and committal service will follow at the adjoining cemetery at 4:00 PM.
The family invites everyone to return to the funeral home for a reception following the burial.
