C. Harold Montgomery, 87 of Austin, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2014 at Barton Hills Assisted Living Center. He was born in Colbert, Oklahoma on June 26, 1927 to the late Guy and Mabel Montgomery and raised in Houston, Texas where he met the love of his life Mary and they married on April 2, 1954 and shared 47 years of marriage.
Harold enlisted in the United States Navy on June 8, 1945 where he spent the next 9 years serving his country on the USS Clamagore. His service included WWII and during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of Houston completing his studies in Diesel Mechanics. Later he and his wife moved to Austin where he attended the University of Texas. Harold and Mary started a family and they had 4 children together. He began a banking and real estate career and retired in 1996 from J.P. Morgan Chase Bank.
Harold enjoyed golf and was a member of both the Austin Country Club and Berry Creek Country Club in Georgetown where he spent 15 years before moving back to Austin. Harold was especially proud of his Chickasaw Nation Heritage and enjoyed telling his children, grandchildren and others of their heritage.
Harold was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Sterk Montgomery, his eldest son John Hunter Montgomery and his sister Mary Gayle Cole. He is survived by his son Guy A. Montgomery, his daughter Melissa Klier and her husband Ronald Klier, his son Joel Montgomery, his daughter-in-law Jennette Montgomery and his 7 grandchildren, Megan & Derek Klier, Alexis, Lindsey, Kaitlin, Paige & Madison Montgomery.
The family would like to send out a special thank you to the staff at Barton Hills Assisted Living Center with special thanks to Gabriella Padroza, Rosaura Romero, Belinda Huerta, Heidi Fischer and also to Tina Carrillo of Hospice Austin for all of their tender care of Harold.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that charitable donations be made in Harold’s memory to any of these charities: The Wounded Warrior Project, The Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice Austin.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m.
