I was friends with Charlie back in the '70s and '80s along with our best buddy the late Jack Snider, we had lots of enjoyable times together.   And I was friends with Charlie in the '90s as a member of the Elks Lodge, along with his neighbor Jim Sowers.    Charlie was one of life's good guys.

Charles was my HEB buddy for so many years. He would always greet me with a smile and ask how I was doing.  He would always tease my daughter, Amanda and would by her  coffee on a regular basis.  When he was diagnosed with colon cancer we sat and talked about what that might involve (I was a past survivor).  He was our Santa at HEB and we truly considered him to be part of our HEB family.  We will truly miss him and his always cheerful attitude and loving nature.

My condolences to the Whisenhunt family.  Charlie and I were in the AHS 1953 graduating class, although we didn't know each other personally.  May God bless and comfort you as you grieve.

Each year a group of Abilene 53 eagles played a two day golf tournament at San Saba, TX. Charles was a key part of that tournament. He didn't play golf but he set up competition with "longest ball" and "closest to the pin" on certain holes. He always provided awards for that competition at his own expense. He loaded his golf cart with all kinds of refreshments and managed to keep everyone well supplied. No question that he was the most popular fellow in our group. Besides all that he was a wonderful friend to us all. He will be sorely missed.

We are so sorry to hear of Charlie passing.  He was a great classmate and always so much fun to be with.  He was always a gentleman and always ready to help any one who ask. We will miss him so much.

I loved having Charlie here as a volunteer at The Caring Place.  He was always able to make me laugh.  Even after he was no longer able to volunteer due to his health, I still was able to visit with him at HEB while he was drinking coffee with his friends.  I loved listening to his stories and he always had a smile on his face.  He was so proud of all of you kids.  I will truly miss Charlie.

My deepest sympathies to the Whisenhunt family during your time of sorrow. Whenever I saw Charles, he always had a kind word and a great football story. Ron Burton

    Charlie was a classmate, friend and onetime employee of mine at Abilene
Linen Supply Co.  He went on to much bigger and better things after he  left
Abilene.  We spent wonderful times together at the Class of 53 golf gatherings
at San Saba where he kept the rest of us lubricated.  At our 25th reunion, a
mutual friend had told Charlie that I had committed suicide {which had been
a real possibility}  when he saw me, his eyes got a big as silver dollars and 
he said, "you are supposed to be dead !!!"   We recovered quickly and had
another 30 years of contact after that.  I am very glad to have known Charlie.
