Maria Cristina “Christy” Quiros Lara, was born February 11, 1927 and died peacefully at her home on December 18, 2012. Born in Alajuela, Costa Rica to Rafael and Asusena Quiros, she married Dr. Fred Lara in Tegucigalpa Honduras on October 15, 1954. After the birth of their first 2 daughters, they sought the greater opportunities available in the United States, settling in Austin in 1959 where they welcomed their third daughter.
Although Christy received many accolades and was loved by all those who knew her for her kindness and generosity, she always claimed her greatest achievements were her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her family unconditionally and lived her life as a good, loving Christian whose home was always open to anyone needing a meal or place to stay.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Fred Lara and is survived by her daughters: Susan Lara Stephens and her husband Steve, Jeanette Lara-Hansford, and Lori Ann Lara Anderson and her husband Tim. Her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Nana”: Christopher Hansford, Emily Stephens, Clinton Hansford, Garret Stephens, Curtis Hansford, Christina Hansford Kondret, Olivia Anderson and Brendan Anderson. Great-grandchildren: Christopher David Hansford II, Hayden Stephens Gibb and Finley Lara Kondret, as well as her sister Maria Rosa Ozerio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to all of our family and friends who helped care for Nana. A special thanks to her wonderful caregivers; Brenda, Mahogany, Kisha , Mandi, Crystal, Gayle and Erlene and to Hospice Austin. A special thank you to her cousin Morima for all the time, love and care she selflessly gave to our mom.
She leaves behind many who loved and respected her but will never forget her. “Que dios me los acompana, me los proteja y me los vendiga. “ We love you Nana.
