It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the sudden loss of Cinde Barbeau. Cinde passed away on June 25, 2026, and the many loved ones she leaves behind are devastated by the unexpected loss of such a vibrant woman.
Cinde D’Ann Doby was born in Fort Hood, Texas on January 27, 1956, the third of six “Army brats.” The family moved from Texas to Germany to Virginia, before finally settling in Leavenworth, Kansas, where Cinde attended middle school and high school. During her teenage years, she was a lifeguard, a competitive swimmer, and she loved to sew – she even made her own prom dress!
After earning her degree from Kansas State University, Cinde moved back to Texas and began a successful career in sales. Over the years, she sacrificed a lot as a single mother who raised two children, but she was deeply devoted to her family and worked hard to give them a happy life.
During the past five years, Cinde was enjoying her retirement that she worked so hard to earn. She traveled to explore new (and old) places at least 8-10 times per year and she recently went to Hawaii for the first time to celebrate her 70th birthday. She was also incredibly proud of her new role as “Oma” to her two grandchildren – Foster and his big sister, Tillie, who was lovingly named after Cinde’s late mother.
Cinde was happiest on the dance floor, she loved to cut a rug and never missed an opportunity to listen to live music, especially jazz. She also had a passion for travel and discovering new places and cultures, from Costa Rica to Fiji to Portugal. Cinde particularly cherished her annual beach trips to Mexico, watching the sunset with a Modelo or Pacifico in hand.
She is preceded in death by her father, Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Robert Doby, and her mother, Tillie Miller Doby, whom Cinde will be joyfully reunited with after her tragic death 52 years ago.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Defee, and her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Timothy Byrne. Her two grandchildren, Tillie and Foster Byrne, will forever cherish their Oma.
Cinde is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Nikki Rainbolt; Rob Doby; Troy and Kathy Doby; Kyle and Karen Doby; and Missy Hearn. In addition, she is remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Cinde’s legacy is her loving family, her bright smile, and the joy of togetherness – she held her loved ones close and cherished every moment they got to spend together.
A service to celebrate Cinde’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas.
