Clifford was a lifelong resident of Pflugerville, Texas. He was born at the family home on Yellow Sage Road to parents Norton LaRue Ward and Myrtle Handsel Ward. He was the second of seven children. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jacquelyn Ward, his eldest sister, Myra Sutherland, and his sixth-born brother, David Ward. He is survived by four siblings—Melba Feil, Maudine Denton, Marlene Maxwell, and Wayne Ward—as well as his sister‑in‑law, Inez Ward, his brother‑in‑law, Robert Martinez, and a large and loving extended family who will forever cherish his memory.
On November 2, 1957, Clifford—known to most as Cliff—married Jacquelyn Joy Hannusch, daughter of Adolph Walter Hannusch and Lena Marx Hannusch. Together they raised three children: Deanna Kay, Steven Jay, and Kenneth Ray. Cliff leaves behind one grandson, four granddaughters, five great-grandsons, and five great-granddaughters. Family was everything to him, and he always looked forward to family celebrations and days at the lake.
Cliff graduated from Pflugerville High School in 1955 and proudly served in the United States Army Corps until 1962. During his service, Cliff worked part time for Lance before beginning his long career with Dr Pepper–Coca-Cola. When Dr Pepper was sold, he continued his employment with Coca-Cola until his retirement.
Throughout his life, Cliff especially loved fishing, bowling, and dove hunting. He fished in many tournaments and won numerous trophies, often going out nearly every weekend—many times taking his family along. The family ate plenty of fish, and no one ever complained—we loved it.
Cliff regularly bowled in two leagues: a men’s league and a mixed league, where he could bowl with Mama. Family trips often involved traveling to bowling tournaments in other cities. He served as secretary for both leagues for many years and won many trophies.
After retiring, Cliff began volunteering at Timmerman Elementary School, where he truly found his element. He loved reading to the kids and participating in activities with them. The teachers became like a second family to him, and many lasting friendships were formed. And, of course, Cliff never missed out on the food—his kryptonite!
Cliff will be remembered for never throwing anything away and for his ability to fix just about anything using whatever he had on hand. His repairs may not always have been conventional, but they always worked.
So cast your line into calm waters now, Daddy—you are no longer in pain. I know that you and Mama are sitting side by side, watching over us. Our love for you both will never fade, and we will hold you close until we meet again.
