Cory Douglas Monzingo

Cory Douglas Monzingo of Pflugerville, Texas passed away December 15th, 2010 at the age of 21 after a two year battle with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (DSRCT). Cory was an inspiration to those that walked this road with him. He understood the unfairness of this dreadful disease but he never complained or allowed bitterness to enter his life. Cory chose happiness each day and continued to live life to the fullest in spite of much suffering and great hardships.

Cory was born on August 27, 1989 in Victoria, Texas and graduated from Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, Texas in 2007. Cory was attending Texas A&M University studying economics and was a proud member of the class of 2011.

Cory was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Doug Monzingo and Dean Dabbs and by his uncle Alan Monzingo.

Cory is survived by his parents, Jeff and Sandy Monzingo of Pflugerville, Texas, brother and sister-in-law, Clay and Kellie Monzingo of Sugar Land, Texas, grandmothers, Kay Monzingo of Pflugerville, Texas and Emma Dabbs of Norman, Oklahoma and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Serving as pallbearers are Travis Pilat, Allen Jarzombek, Nick Novosad, Trey Bryan, Travis Dorsett, Eric Dabbs, John Jazesf and Chris Leal.

The family would like to thank all of Cory’s caregivers at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Scott & White Hospital, and Angel Heart Hospice. The care and love Cory received will never be forgotten.

An Endowed Scholarship Fund has been set-up in memory of Cory and gifts for this scholarship should be directed to the Memory of Cory Monzingo, Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840-2811. There will be a visitation for family and friends at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 N. IH 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Pflugerville, 500 E. Pecan Street, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
