Dan Domeracki passed away on May 11, 2024, at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Myrtle Domeracki, his three children and their spouses, their ten grandchildren and their spouses, and eight great grandchildren - with two on the way.
Though accomplished in many areas, throughout his entire life his wife and family were what was most important to him. The love for his wife was pure, total, and undeniable. The last words Dan spoke were to his wife, and they were, “I love you”. His family was everything to him and he made many personal and professional sacrifices to ensure that his family was well provided for and always knew how much they were loved.
Until his late teens, Dan lived on a farm in upstate New York. Though he didn’t graduate from high school, throughout his life he pursued educational goals and in 1999 earned a Doctorate in Theology. He was an enormously talented musician, who was offered a major contract to pursue a career in music as an entertainer. To ensure family stability and to be sure that he could be the best husband and father he could be, he decided to forego that career and instead joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
In a world where the word “hero” is applied all too often, Dan was an actual hero. While deployed on one of his three tours in Vietnam he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroic actions that saved lives and military aircrafts. He was also awarded the Navy Commendation medal – with Valor, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He retired after almost 22 years in the Marine Corps attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Three.
In civilian life, he was a Boy Scouts leader for several years. He established, American Interiors, a family-run construction company, and he later became a real estate agent and insurance agent, until finally realizing his true calling in life was to be a minister. For over 30 years, Dan ministered at nursing homes, and served as Deputy Chaplain in Tarrant County ministering to troubled youths and prison inmates.
Amongst his many friends, he may have been known by some as a bit of a fun-loving rascal, but throughout his life he was greatly loved for his happy, peaceful, and loving personality. He loved seeing people smile, and he loved bringing them happiness.
Dan will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on May 28, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Resolution Hospice.
