Darin Ray Chaffin was born July 23, 1961 in Fort Worth, Texas to Raymond (“Bud”) and Trena Chaffin. After growing up in Fort Worth alongside his sister Lisa, Darin attended Abilene Christian College where he studied psychology. It was in Abilene that Darin met the love of his life, Krista, and they married in 1985. Together they had two children, Austin and Hillary, while living in Fort Worth. In 1995, Darin and his family moved to Austin to join the thriving music scene.
Darin was an extremely creative man who had countless interests including woodworking, gardening, and trading stocks, but his true passion was music. As a life-long musician, he could make music with almost anything and fill a house with singing and laughter. Darin was an accomplished guitarist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, and he was creating and recording new music up to his final days.
Darin had so much love that touched so many people. Whether he was cooking food, playing music, or just telling a joke, he could easily make a room come alive. Family was always a central part of Darin’s life and he happily welcomed new people into his circle of trust. When friends were in need, Darin would selflessly offer a word of advice, a shoulder to lean on, and even a room in his home.
Darin passed away in Austin, Texas on August 13, 2021. Even after his passing, Darin’s generous spirit continues: he was an organ and tissue donor whose gift will help more than 100 people.
Darin is survived by his wife, Krista; Parents, Raymond and Trena; Children, Austin, Hillary, Price, and Maggie; and Sister, Lisa. In memory of Darin’s passion for helping those in need, the family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Central Texas Food Bank.
