Darlene Ann Blacklock, 68, of Leander, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 12, 2020. She was born in Houston, Texas to Harland Bristow Doak, Sr. and Phyllis Elaine Doak on August 5, 1952. She married John Douglas Blacklock on May 20, 1995 in Austin.
Darlene graduated from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Houston, Houston Baptist University and received an Associates of Arts Degree from South Texas Junior College. She had a long career as a hospital admittance clerk starting at Herman Hospital in Houston and then moving to a similar job at Seton Hospital in Austin before retiring in 2017.
She was a faithful Christian and active church member throughout her life. She was a lifelong Presbyterian until she moved to Austin from Houston and joined Great Hills Baptist Church. It was there that she was able to sing in the choir, which was her passion. She was currently a member of Pathway Bible Church and helped lead their Music and Praise Team and a member of the Tuesday Group Seniors’ Class. Darlene was one of the leaders of Block House Creek’s Recreation team. She was passionate about gardening and often accompanied her mother, Phyllis, on her many Master Gardening duties.
Darlene was beloved by her family and friends. She delighted in her nieces and nephews, keeping up and celebrating their achievements, marriages and their kids throughout their lives. She never missed someone’s birthday and enjoyed giving gifts for all occasions. She was a devoted and compassionate caregiver to her mom in the last several years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harland B. Doak, Sr. and infant sister, Phyllis. Darlene is survived by her husband, John Douglas Blacklock of Leander; mother Phyllis Elaine Doak; sister Candace Elaine Seale and husband Byron (Winchester, TX); brothers Philip Harland Doak and wife Mary Ellen (Austin) and Harland Bristow Doak, Jr. and wife Alicia (Austin); nieces and nephews, Nathan (Rachel) Seale, Hannah Seale (Jonathan) Hernandez, Elisabeth Seale (Mike) Davis, Deborah Seale (Ryan) Matthews, Abigail Seale (Thomas) Hawkins, Andrew Doak, Molly Doak (Cody) Dyce, Spencer Doak, Audrey Doak (Michael) Zeminski, Sterling Doak and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

A visitation will he held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2020 in The Memorial Chapel of the funeral home followed by a committal service in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
